What are you using for circulation?

Closed loop RD3 230 with different profiles for different times of day. Internal flow is handled by 2 Tunze 6205's and 1 Tunze 6105 in the main display, two Tunze 6095's in the display fuge, 2 Tunze 6055's in the frag tank all controlled by my Apex and or Profilux depending on the tank. Also have a pair of Neptune/Apex WAV's in another tank here.

I've seen many threads started about recommendations for circulation pump. Thought this would be a good thread to start and give people some sound advice about water circulation. List what your using and why your using it, AC vs DC, controllability, etc.

I've elected to go with Ecotech Marine Vortechs. I have a MP-40WQD and 2x MP-10WQD pumps in my take for circulation. I run the MP-10s @ 60% and the MP-40 @ 40%. I control these pumps on alternating times through my APEX controller, so 40 is at peak and 10s are at minimum. The control I have through the APEX is the primary reason I went with the Ecotech's.
What's your story?
Thx
Im currently putting together basically the same. DC pumps are awesome. Varios 6. I just got my Apex installed and mp40 will be here tomorrow. Did you not choose to have the ecotechs communicate with eachother without the apex? Using their own software? Reason I'm asking is that I didn't know you could control them through the apex.. Like the apex wave pumps? With the graph?

I have the APEX control my MP-40 and I just installed 2 WAV pumps so everything is controllable through the APEX. I did use the ReefLink before getting my APEX with a WXM and it worked well.

sweet! I didn't really know you could do that. Do you of any good tutorial videos on setting it up? I went from all no technology to all technology in the last week and now I know how my grandparents would have felt handing them a smartphone for the first time.

That is the one drawback to the Vortech design: lack of customization in direction. It took me a few weeks of playing with the MP10 positions and power to get what I wanted which would be much faster if you could adjust their direction of flow like the Tunze or Hydor pumps, but I prefer the minimalist look in the tank :)

I agree- in a smaller tank, the form factor is nice, but in larger tanks the inability to direct flow was a deal breaker for me.

In my 126g, primary circulation is provided by my Maxspect Gyre XF150 at 45% constantly flowing the length of the tank and supplemented by a MP40QD that randomly flows the width of the tank.

On my 180, I am running 2 jebao PP20(one on left and one on right), and 2 jebao PP15(both on the back wall). Bare bottom system.. I use the jb wave, and it changes from a sweep to random pulse program throughout the day, with 4 minute cycles..

I just went from 2 MP60's to 2x Gyre 280's yesterday so far loving the flow, I also have 2 x mp40 and 4 x Tunze 6095 for back tank flow in a 300DD

In the 6' 125g I have 2 Vortech MP 40w ES, one on each end, during the day they run at 35% Reefcrest and at night they run at 20% Lagoon, the return pump is a Eheim Compact Plus 5000, all controlled by Apex

Seaswirl for the return + Maxspect Gyre 130 + 2 Tunze 6055 in a 30 in x 30 in x 18 in tank - soon to be sps dominated .
Am thinking whether to upgrade the tunzes to 6095 ?

Abhishek

Tank hasn't arrived yet but I have ordered an mp40qd off pure recommendation. And two Rossmont mx9800 Mover and Waver system, it was half price in a store that was closing down and has good reviews (smallest and very quiet)
