gadzooks!! a pox on the OP, i say! just today ... my deepwater canary damselfish perished unexpectedly! not an easy fish to acquire and rather pricey! i’ve had that fish since may of last year. ;Inpain

i lost a yellow tang during quarantine that somehow managed to get himself stuck inside a pvc tube meant to provide shelter.

i’ve tried keeping dwarf golden angels and i’m 0-3. could never get them to eat reliably. ;Dead

Just wanted to post a follow up since I was zinging Live Aquaria a bit earlier in the thread.

My Kole Tang arrived today. Packing and water quality inside the bag were both top shelf. The fish is healthy, active and at a really good weight. He is going into 48 hour observational quarantine after a methylene blue dip. Then into display with an oversized UV sterilizer running.

Time will tell but my initial impressions are all positive.

I don't even want to think about it. Total coral loss this year. Actually it's been in the works for a year as dinos over took a the tank and wiped out all the sps, lps and most of the softies. Plus the snails, shrimp and urchin. The rebuild is progressing and quite an interesting process as I am fending off a slight recurrence of dinos. But this time I am way ahead of it and have a great R2R team providing guidance to get it right and encouragement.

I had good luck with Dr Tims Dino Treatment Regimen. Battled off and on everyday blowing off corals, swapping sediment filters, testing nutrient levels, and all the regular reading and forum searching, finally tried Dr Tims after being recommended by another member. Took two weeks to perform the regimen but so far, no sign of dinos since treating.

Good to know. Mail order fish may start becoming the new normal for me whether I like it or not. My LFS does not appear to be doing well and not sure if they will survive this....

Red ruby dragonet, angel, 2 banghii, 2 gobies ,cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp, red branded shrimp yep all my livestock heartbreaking, all I have is corals uuggghhh

Been a pretty good start of the year. No fish losses, lost one Acan and a couple of chalices, and a Zoa colony. Last year lost a few tester sps and an established pocillopora while on vacation while tank was being watched and had a salinity swing due to a faulty low water sensor.

Last month I lost my entire tank to either brook or velvet. I didn't have much in the way of corals, but lost them in the tank breakdown to get fish out in an attempt to save some of them.

It isn't the money, it was the fact that my clowns and PJ cardinal had been with me for 6+ years, and a stupid mistake of not prophylactically treating new fish, only observing them for 2 weeks, led to the demise of my tank.

Lost all my Acro frags so that’s 200ish burned this year plus another 200 on salt and uv. Dinoflagellates are expensive

Well this is freshwater. This year I lost 10 red phantom tetras to ich (I don’t even get it I treated them and all the other fish were fine). I think the loss was like $100.

From what I know from working at an aquarium, there is absolutely NO 100% guarantee to get rid of ich. You can quarantine and copper as long as you want, but just like staph-->> MRSA, ick can mutate. It can become highly resistant. Once that happens, the best thing you can do is limit fish overload to the system and reduce fish stress. It should keep their bodies functioning at their prime and able to fight off the infection. But once that immune system is compromised and ONE fish gets a outbreak.... hasta la vista pescaditos.

Had the male of my Interruptus Angel pair jump a few weeks ago (had him for 3 years) $2300

Then I had a Regal Angel in qt and 10 days ago I broke my foot and could not get to basement to do water change. My husband tried to take care of fish but he has no clue. I figured that one was coming. That cost $300

So I’m looking at $2600

It has been a good year for me. Luckily, no huge losses. Knock on wood.
I only lost a Hippopus clam, so we are under $100

My tank is relatively new. The only losses I have suffered are 1 Chromie, and one firefish so altogether about $30 lost.

Last year was about $40, some softies and snails.
2011 was the worst-made a lot of newbie mistakes and I lost close to $800 over that year in trial and error.

r this year I have thrown away around $275 in the trash on livestock and corals. Yellow tang, zoas, torch, and mushrooms. Granted I'm sure it has "some" to do with my tank only being setup for 4 months and other unforeseen circumstances, but still money in the trash!

I know most of us don't even want to think about the money thrown into or out of this hobby, it's frustrating for sure. However, it's good to have a gut check every once in a while and prioritize. For example me, corals are on hold for a few months while I throw money into my beer brewing hobby.

Needed to upgrade old 1/2 hp chiller, lost some corals, all for the sake of R&D research. Over $500, for sure

I haven’t bought much livestock this year. Had a couple of LA shipments go awry .... so lost livestock but they were refunded. So in $$ out of pocket ....zero.
