Those of you with tangs or herbivorous fish why do you not feed a little nori every day?

I don't like getting my hands wet.

I need to do it more, honestly. But my fish get gut-loaded every night. ;)

90 gallon tank
6 am pinch of black worms
5pm pinch of black worms
7pm pinch of black worms
9pm 2 grams of lrs (switch up the kind)and black worms.

I'm jealous you can get blackworms. I found some listed on Ebay I thought about ordering. I have frozen redworms I thaw out each night and include in the food for my Copperband butterfly.

Yea what is weird is that I just found this out from another member.
I am lucky indeed
So the first time I sent him a pound and then He found them online and got them shipped from California but for the price he was paying I could get three lbs. he has since talked his local fish store into getting them in and now enjoys my prices.

@locito277 what was the website called?

I feed my fish at least 3 often 4 times a day so a little and often. I rarely fed dry foods maybe once or twice a week. I make my own or feed frozen foods. When fish have set dinnertimes and eat dry foods in the wild I might consider them. Until then I will carry on feeding my fish as I have done for the last 25 years or so. I let nature be my guide as much as is reasonably possible.

I feed at least 3 times a day, LRS reef frenzy and Hikari mysis. Spectrum pellets.

I was wondering about what y'all do. If you feed your fish multiple times a day, or every other day.... whatever is your routine, I'd like to hear it. Here's mine:

400g:
12:30 p.m. - Eheim autofeeder (1 rotation)
6:30 p.m. - Eheim autofeeder (2 rotations)
10:20 p.m. - Rod's food

60g Anemone cube:
7:00 p.m. - Eheim autofeeder (1 rotation)
10:20 p.m. - Rod's food

60g Frag system:
4:00 p.m. - Eheim autofeeder (1 rotation)
10:20 p.m. - Rod's food

Special treats on occasion, 2x per week:
Nori clipped to the glass of the 400g

Special treat on rare occasion (few times a year)
1 pinch of banana mashed up into the water column for the tangs and anthias to go crazy over

If I'm home they eat about 6 times a day. They take down about 3-4 Nori sheets down a day. I feed every frozen food that I can, make my own frozen mix, feed live blackworms, feed refrigerated foods as well. Some days they may only eat twice a day. Feeding is key to maintains peace in the aquarium.

California black worms. Their paypal info is [email protected]. 46.99 a lb. my LFS has made them available by servings but I rather get the pound and go overboard

I am very interested in this as i can not get my nitrates down and don't know if i am over feeding ....under feeding.... or what?? i feed once a day and give nori every day.....1/2 cube of red plankton , 1 cube of shrimp a good pinch of pellets and of flakes, I have large yellow tang, a nasco tang, sailfin tang, 2 x clowns, 2 flame hawks , copper band butterfly, angle, and a mandarin dragnet , what do you think???

I feed twice a day (usually). 8:00 am and 8:oo pm. Mixture of P.E. Mysis, plankton, Rods Food (evenings), LRS Herbavore (mornings), fish eggs (sometimes), live black worms (sometimes), Cyclopeze (sometimes), Hakiri mysis, and Ocean Nutrition's Angel Formula. This is a 500g sps dominated reef with a moderate bioload, btw.

How did you do that? The Eheim is battery powered with its own internal timers. Did you gut and wire this up differently?

I set up a Virtual Outlet on the apex, then set it so when the VO is on it cuts off the skimmer & powerheads, essentially creating an automatic feed mode. Then just program the eheim to come on after the VO cuts on :)
If you search the neptune apex forum there's step by step guides on how to set it up. Definitely worth a look.

I was wondering how people here have protein skimmers or sumps etc. Mine is a 55gl with 2 clowns and 1 dotty back. And a few small corals. Asst snails hermits and a sand sifting star. I feed every other day 1/2 cube frozen mysis. Have had issues with high phosates and algae till lately. Not skimmer just water changes every two weeks.

3-4 sheets of Nori per day? What size tank? How's your PO4 level?

720! I got my fans from your store over on Facebook. My tank is in a state of flux. Lost a major pump so most SPS didn't make it. Softies, anemones, fish all great though. Nitrates were high. I was getting my denitrator tuned in at the time of failure.

Susan, it comes down to total water volume, filtration methods and accessories. I use biopellets to keep my nitrates under control, and it works really well for me.

Oh, I see. So you are making it dump into the tank at the best window of opportunity. I leave my pumps on for the Eheim feedings, but turn off the return pump when I serve up the thawed frozen foods.

Awww! Sorry to hear that. That sucks!
