What will a UPS strike mean for the hobby?

You misunderstood my opinion as a complaint. It is not a complaint. It’s an assumption that UPS striking would cause such large implications that our government will step in before a strike happens. I do wish for no strike, and I do know why it is happening.

I’d recommend reading about it some to get an understanding of how/if your daily life will be impacted.

With all due respect, but my life isn't going to be altered in any way, shape or form (probably as to why I didn't know about the strike). We have different suppliers here, UPS being simply one of the so many. At best I've gotten 2 things from UPS in my lifetime. For reference: I live in the netherlands.

Where at in the netherlands? I was there for one of my summer events and stayed on the military kacern in gouda. was a great little city. Loved my time there.

Yeah - I doubt it would have any impact since the strike being discussed is U.S. based.

Saw at least one vendor talking about the impending UPS strike and how that is likely going to impact their ability to ship coral for the time being (if it happens), and it got me to wondering how many other reef businesses this is likely to impact. How bad would the impact of this strike be?

Its going to be bad, fedex is already slow and overloaded so with UPS going on strike thats going to be bad, and USPS doesnt really do over nighted stuff… had the two shipments I wanted the second week of August sent out this week cause Im not sure how long this strike will last

I'm close with all my LFS owners, they all make runs to the airport via southwest cargo to pick up their fish

Most LFS get their livestock via direct flights (and thus won't be impacted). Unless this is broader than a UPS strike.

Yes sir. And in looking into it further (checking news articles etc.), it does seem like it is possibly going to happen. Seeing your thread got me to think about how this will impact you and other small businesses. Hoping things work out quickly. Definitely not a good situation.

I am going to wait it out if it does go that way. I'm too afraid fed ex will be in over their heads if they intend to pick up the slack.

The silver lining though is that this is one of the slowest times of the year for coral vendors respectively. So if I'm being honest, I would be ok with an easy week off. Personally I haven't had one in years lol.

Now if they were going to strike at Black Friday/Xmas time, it would be a lot more trouble for a lot of vendors I'm sure.

Either way. I hope reasonable heads prevail. I like my driver. He works hard is always on time and treats me super well. Couldn't ask for better rapport.

Just look at the actors strikes, it’s the same thing.


And then they got all us here repeating those same talking points of why we should shoot ourselves in the collective foot. America loves to help the rich guys because we think we will be them.

This thread is exactly that, everyone arguing why each others tiny extra isn’t fair but nobody mentions the shareholders and execs that are just still sitting fatter and fatter each year laughing at us peasants.

Same here - my driver (Mike) has been servicing our route for 10+ years. We give him a gift card for Xmas.

I hope this potential strike doesn't hurt people like them.

I'm friendly with my driver too because i live and work in the same town, he hits my house and work, is frequently stopped on the street, always waves or beeps at me and leaves 2 or 3 dog biscuits at my house depending on whether my gf's dog is there too.

when he drives by i always yell "Adrian" like from rocky- that's his name. He's a good dude and should be treated well, as should everyone.

Definitely not the same thing. You needn't look further than the past year of TV shows and movies to realize that most of these studios are putting out absolute crap - and writers bear a huge responsibility for this.

i didn't happen in a vacuum, studios have been cutting funding for a while and the writers rooms are smaller than ever were. meaning fewer ppl not smaller quarters

The only time I've had an issues with USPS shipping was when the vendor did not appropriately mark the package as containing live animals. I swear they give a box with "contains live animal" higher priority. I do not know if thats true or not, but if I was shipping an animal, I would mark it from my experience.
