What will a UPS strike mean for the hobby?

This is not the first time UPS went on strike. I work in logistics and the last time UPS went on strike, FedEx was overwhelmed and could not accommodate the volume. People started resorting to Southwest Airlines. It will be an overloaded mess for a while.

My guess - the strike will not last long. It will affect some shipments - and were I ordering livestock (as compared to dry goods) - I might wait until after the strike is settled.

I had just started with TWA when the last UPS strike hit, the sheer volume of priority parcels we shipped on our metal (aircraft) overnight from city to city was insane. Companies would literally buy a PMC (flat pallet) or a LD3/5/8 and stuff it to the gills or sublet the can to get critical stuff moved.

that was late 90's IIRC - I was just starting my final and current career and as a newbie, I was relegated to a Customer Service role.
I remember getting blessed out by many for something entirely out of my control. Same with the Covid supply chain stuff that has been going on for the past 2 years.

Also, repping Nashville as well.

I agree with most of you. If they go into a strike will hurt a lot of business in general, but they are not perfect, had a bad experience with UPS. DOA just because the shipment got delayed somewhere in route. The truck made it to my pickup location on the shipment day (Friday), I waited for hours, but they couldn’t or didn’t want to open the container (it was to late, most of the workers already left was the last excuse) had to wait until Monday to get the fish. By that time it was to late. All I want to say is that UPS/FedEx or however is handling of any kind of live animal should have a much much higher priority that what they have going on.
 
Truck loaders making minimum wage(mostly part timers) while the drivers(full timers) are making $30+ is not fare. If they do strike, rates will go up.
If they do strike, don't expect things overnighted for a while. Delayments will cause a back log they will have to attend to.

Companies are making huge profits due to record price hikes due to shipping issues during covid. Now that supply chains are near pre covid, the shipping companies refuse to lower prices and fabricate shipping issues by limiting available containers on ships, thus reducing fuel and labor costs. Less containers available translates to higher costs per container. Alot of companies over ordered during covid as well and are now overstocked. They paid above normal prices for product and are realizing that the majority of people can't afford the crazy price they're asking. This is apparent in the constant weekly sales on map items. This usually only happened on black Friday if you were lucky. I don't know about you but I can't justify paying almost $3000 for 2 lights and 2 powerheads for a 4 ft 120. And speaking of the constant sales, 10% off is not going to convince me to make a purchase. The companies have spent so much time and effort justifying the higher prices that if the lowered the prices to make stuff affordable they would be seen as deceptive.
 
For what it's worth my UPS guy who I know pretty well having worked part time with him for a few years does not think there will be a strike. thinks to company will offer 95% of what the union wants, and the workers will ratify the new contract.
