What's Next: What are you thinking about trying next?

After experimenting and totally screwing up my water clarity, I'll be sticking to tried and true methods going forward lol

I currently added Trident to my FOWLR tank, I want to maintain stable alkalinity more than anything. I will be adding an APEX DOS as well to automate the ALK dosing. At some point i will get into starter corals when i move to my new tank, however have to try and find something a dogface puffer and Picasso trigger wont bother....lol

I have been just trying to actually simplify my tank with equipment, I think sometimes we over think things or just add a bunch of equipment because it is trendy but I want to keep it simple. I am hoping to establish my algae scrubber enough i can discontinue use of protein skimmer and use a scrubber by itself. I will also add a refugium to keep PODS safe in some chaeto. Next will be a small tank system to propogate PODs for my system myself.

Been using Tropic Marin All-For-Reef and I upped the dose as I still saw it was dropping, let it go a few days before I figured I would measure again. Well lost a torch and my sps are turning white. I measured the alk and I went from 9 to 12 in 5 days. Turned my doser off and did a 20% WC. Im just going to let the coral consume the alk until its back to 9 and knock the doser down a bit.

I am trying to buffer down ALK from 12DKH and get my Mag up. Want to be SPS grower instead of killer

Frustrated with low alk (using tropic marin salt) so probably gonna play with that.
Also cant stand sea lettuce in my refugium constantly clogging the baffle. Ordered chaeto and hopefully that is better.

So what do I mean by "what's next?"

Well we're always tinkering and toying with our reef tanks but many times it's because something isn't quite right. Maybe it's an algae issue, acros not coloring up or a slew of other things. The hardest thing to do is to sit back and wait so we like to try new things. It's not always the best idea in this hobby!

So for me lately I have been dealing with GHA or green hair algae. I've tried a few different things and had some success but I just can't beat it all back. So what's next? Well let's talk about that today!

What are you thinking about trying next and why are you thinking about it?

I had an algae problem after introducing Aquaray LED lights. I tried a Lawnmower Blenny and various snails but they wouldn’t touch it. Then I added a Bristletooth Tang and he had All of the live rock spotless in about a week. No more algae problem. Now my only problem is feeding this beast! He has a voracious appetite to match his boundless energy. He is always on the move grazing for food!

I just finished setting up a mixing station so the next thing that I might try is AWC.

I'm looking into getting my tank back on track like it was over a year ago when o could sell frags I was growing, now I want them back to replace the ones I lost due to bottoming out nitrates and phosphates, that caused stn/rtn on all my sps an lps just look fed up. I'm dosing both no3 and po4 to get them back to where my corals were happy and thriving, I'm just sat looking through the dirty glass that I dont want to waste time cleaning.

It looks like I have diatoms back on the sand again. I'm just going to see how long I can just keep my hands out and see what happens.

Mine is a yes & a no. "Yes" in that I'm trying something new, "no" in that I'm having an issue in my tank. I switching over to a CaRx from dosing BRS 2-part. Not because I'm having an issue with dosing, but that I just don't feel like dosing anymore lol

I've been looking at getting an oxydator. I'm wandering if it would help keep the glass cleaner for longer the pic of my tank above os a weeks worth.

Two ongoing problems - one was more of an annoyance than a problem - using NOPOx that last .05 PO4 wasn't going away (common problem with carbon dosing), tried Phosphate Rx just to see if could knock it down to .02-.03 and it worked great once I got the drop count right (I started very, very slow).

Last issue is GHA (or brown, nasty looking GHA), which is why I wanted PO4 down. So it's still there, of course. Doesn't clean for diddly - oh it cleans, tank looks great for about 10 - maybe 15 minutes (an exaggeration of course but not by much). Maybe nitrate limited GHA is brown or a very dark green/black. Anyhow...trying Vibrant today for the next several weeks. Fingers crossed.

Well I just dumped 14 pills in my Display, slightly freaked out. It's Reef Flux, trying to knock lingering algae issue. I wont sleep good until I do a WC in 3 days and see all corals still happy.
