I am the same way with the more finicky fish. I skipped QT on my standard leopard wrasse and on my kole tang (it was not eating. It took close to 2 weeks in the DT to get it on prepared foods instead a 100% diet of film algae). Luckily the leopard did not bring anything in and the Kole had been treated with copper for two weeks at Live aquaria.

Ok, so how about a real update. Let’s take it by big topics
Algae
Bryposis. The Tech-M was a success. I raised Mg from 1350 to 1800 by 50-100 points per day over the course of a week. It took about a gallon of Tech-M to get there (ordered 2, so I have one for backup) and I didn’t change water during the process. I honestly stopped paying attention to the algae since I was so focused on testing to make sure that everything else was inline. And, after 2-weeks, I just sort of looked around and said, “huh, no more bryposis.” I never saw it disintegrate or anything like that – just noticed one day that it was gone. Sweet.
One observation to make though: My alk seemed to creep up to around 9 dkh as I raised Mg even though I didn’t increase the 2-part dosing. I was glad I monitored the “big-3” carefully during this time because I didn’t want things to get too far out of balance. I thought the negative correlation between increased Mg levels and decreased Alk uptake was interesting. Maybe coral growth slowed down a bit while the Mg levels were elevated. Has anyone else experienced this?
Blue/Green Cyano. Still battling this but I think it’s a combination of bryopsis die-off, the clam dying at the beginning of the month and low flow. Hopefully it will die off now that I’m back to my regular water change schedule.
Fish
Choati Wrasse. She’s doing really great. Usually wakes up around 9-10am and dives back into her sandbed around 3-4pm. Thankfully Kwoww’s work schedule usually allows her to feed the Choati while she’s out midday. She’s been eating Rod’s mysis, PE mysis and the bigger chunks in regular Rod’s Food. We’ve occasionally been feeding live brine soaked in selcon because she goes nuts for live brine. No dried foods yet but we’re going to keep working on it.
Linespot Wrasse. So we put this new guy into the tank with the choati, mccoskeri, yellow “coris” and (after evolved enlightened us) a P. flavianalis hybrid (it was sold to us as a “Blue Flasher” wrasse), the hybrid turned super male within a week and became very flashy. It was gorgeous and pretty amazing to watch unveil but it kept the linespot pinned into the corner of the tank and it was becoming very stressed out. I managed to scoop it out after a few days and placed it in the main SPS display. It’s been doing really well in the bigger tank.
Bartlett’s Anthias. The second smallest of the trio is (or has turned) sub-male and the big bruiser male is picking on him pretty good. The sub-male is still able to eat and swim occasionally, but it’s not a happy life. I’ll likely have to find it a new home. But while I’m at it, I’m thinking of just removing all of the Bartlett’s and swapping them out with a group of 4 (or as many as I can find) ventralis females and just let them sort out the pecking order. If you’ve been following along, I love ventralis and think the best approach will be to give them free reign of the bigger SPS tank without competition from another group of anthias. For the time being, I’m on a list for ventralis and will start efforts to trap the Bartlett’s once I hear word that they get a shipment in. Don’t hold your breath!
Corals
We picked up some new LPS and one new SPS that we’re excited about. I don’t have any pictures of the new additions yet but will get them up soon. The 30k lokani has continued its downward spiral and is now just one tiny stick glued to a rock. Keeping my fingers crossed that this piece makes it.

We picked up a few new pieces that I'm excited about.
Actually had a hard time finding healthy and fairly priced coco worms around, but one of our favorite places had them in this past weekend:
Finally, I'm really excited about this new SPS, which I'm told is going to be released by WWC as the "cherry blossom" acro. It was a pretty big frag and, since it was attached to a rock from the LFS, I broke it off (basically making it a fresh cut) into two separate frags. I placed one under the LEDs and the other is under halides. Will be fun to watch the corals grow up and see what they turn into.

I'm tempted for sure! But let me enjoy the scoly for at least another few months before risking it. lol!
Hehe, I actually picked that up from Jorell out at Reef Monsters on Sunday. And, while I was out there, I put in a request for some ventralis and/or borbs so we'll see what (if anything) comes in.

I know you were joking, but Kristina can't help herself from wanting to cut things up and spread the love. It's like it's her job or something.
Maybe we'll wait an experiment on a different scoly if/when we ever get a frag tank up and running.

Thanks Lucas. Kristina and I both read Tony's article. I don't think the LFS that I got her from used this technique and neither did we. As you know, she went straight into the display. I think the multiple daily feedings when she first started coming out was helpful. Today is actually the first day that neither of us will be home to feed her midday. I'm confident that she'll find pods or other critters in the tank to munch on as she's constantly hunting. Really cool to watch.

Lol, I've never made a buck taking photos but thanks for the compliment Leo. I have a lot to learn with photography -- I'll enjoy being an amateur until I make it big with aquarium photography. Not holding my breath! haha. One perk of this side-hobby that has developed is that I get to photograph some very nice aquariums in person.
