All the plastic!

Perfect

I always wondered why everyone worries about a rusty screw in their tank when we put rust in to remove phosphate
Its all the other elements in the metal thats the issue.

Ocean velvet is the worst

so much stronger than the velvet that is in all the wholesalers

The fish will thank us

i am now even closer to Giving up the hobby

thanks for helping through my plastic dilemma

thanks for the seals and the plastic guns

thanks for curing ocean velvet

now I can just go to the local dock and feed the fish and enjoy the ocean without having plastic waste

Have you seen reports of where most of the plastic ends up though. Non recycled
Yep. Ever since China stopped accepting plastic a couple of years ago. Recycling in the US is almost nonexistent, and is limited to something like cottage industry with just a couple of types of plastic.

This topic is all over the map but to the OG post. My LFS is going to start mixing bulk 2 part additive and selling it in bottles you bring back to refill to cut back on waste from his store. I know everyone doesn’t care about the “drop in the bucket” but I like to try where I can even if it does nothing in the big picture makes me feel good to make the least waste I can while still enjoying this hobby to the fullest!

If we want real recycling we have to mandate post-consumer content in all product packaging. That will create the market. More likelihood (at least in the US) of a baby seal with an actual plastic gun defending itself from a poacher with a club.

You should see the waste that comes out of just one day of surgery at a level 1 trauma center.
That might be more necessary waste than our waste created to keep ocean animals in a cage for enjoyment

What emissions testing? That is gone now. Plus never had it in my county where I register anyways lol.
Emissions... funny. I took the cat off of my Mini Cooper years ago - no need up here in ND. We scoff at such things.

I think probably most of that is not so recyclable... and gooey.

This is a confusing statement to me coming from a reefer. Do you feel that your reef inhabitants are not being provided a quality healthy environment? That is an entirely different thread topic

I don’t think anyone can reproduce the ocean completely in captivity so no matter what it is an unnatural environment for the animals we keep so I’m not sure it’s their ideal “quality healthy environment”

again, Not judging Im guilty of partaking in the madness

The naso tang in my 20g cube doesn't have to swim nearly as far for his food or worry about predators! Lucky guy

;);Hilarious

Maybe they are better off in the glass box though since all Our plastic waste is flogging up their ocean

I am not suggesting that you do not care for your animals well. Only that your statement confused me "keep ocean animals in a cage for enjoyment" that is the definition of this hobby is it not?

I don't feel bad for my fish. They have it great. No predators to stress about. Several meals a day that they don't have to seek out. Lots of room to swim around. Well out-living their life expectancies in the wild. No plastic to worry about...

Eh, I throw in one of those plastic can holders (you know on the 6 packs) once in a while to remind my fish how good they have it.

Even better is to squirt some sunscreen directly into the tank. Let your corals know it could be way worse

I know you’re not saying they are not well

I do think It’s cruel to take fish from the ocean and keep it in captivity

i think I’ve just been too involved professionally for too long that I’ve seen the high level of mortality and it’s sad

im Glad you’re fish are happy
They’re glad they have a good home

unfortunately it takes many casualties for the few that make it to good homes
