Australian live rock

Everyone's pics of these rocks look awesome. Thanks for sharing and cheers to the Aussies for getting the good stuff out. Would be a dream to one day start a tank with 10lbs from Australia, 10lbs from Fiji, 10 lbs from Philippines, 10 lbs from Hawaii. Would be impossible to screw that tank up :)
I bet I could!

What is everyone doing to cycle? High salinity dip first or just straight into correct salinity vat? Any need for temp and lighting?

Be really careful when you guys unpack this rock, it is very brittle. It came wrapped in soaked paper and then double bagged.

I’m tossing it in my brute 1.026 w power head and heater 77. Then I’ll move. It to a fresh bucket w same parameters and chk the ammonia as I go.

I only picked up 7lbs so I'm using a home depot bucket filled with 1.026 salinity water with a power head and heater set to 77 degrees. I have an ammonia badge in the bucket so when the ammonia rises a bit high I can easily do a 100% water change. I also shake the rock in the water really well before dumping the nasty water to help free up any decaying organics. Before filling with fresh saltwater. This is my usual process and depending on the initial die off the cycle can take a few days to a couple weeks. Based off of what I recieved I'm anticipating a couple weeks until there's no more die off and ammonia spikes. I would say no light but honestly if you have one lying around it'll probably help keep the coraline from turning white and the other macros would probably benefit from it. I've never used a light on cycling rock though.

@ccarr123 @ssdawood ok. Ordered 7# to get the free shipping. Asked for smaller sized pcs really like the quality u got @ccarr123 have water made up ready to move between buckets through the cycle. KP will b available. This won’t. Lol. U guys are enablers. Just sayin
Bro it's so porous it break easily. I am sure even larger ones will come broken.

Get this while available. Also I have a feeling next batch is 30 per pound.
Unique is reading this amd getting excited.
25 was just launch price.
I have seen similar rock sell for 35 when first came.
Then 3 months later still selling at 27.
So at 25 a pound I jumped on it.

I have enough room in DT
But I will remove my year old reef rock after this is cycled.
Plan is to keep buying KP and rock like this till my 600lbs are all ocean.
This way you spread purchase and live rock will only become rare with time.

Actually shipping from Australia is very expensive

Even you can get this straight
When I setup my 600 gallon I will have to find a wholesaler.

Your correct in that the price will be going up. When they received the last batch It was only 20 per lb back in November and here we are at 25 per lb on this new batch.
Side note I just did a water change and looked over the rock and I see a few brittle stars crawling over the rock so that's a good sign of life after the first 24hrs. I also stumbled on a huge black Crab claw wedged in a crevice. Further inspection revealed that it was only an empty claw but the potential for pests is certainly present.

Before putting in a display tank I would go get a good coris or leopard wrasse or something along those lines to clean out all those inverts. Can just sell the wrasse if you don't want it long term. small price to pay for the eradication of pests.

I have a melanurus who does a great job scavenging and picking all day long. If there's any pests in my tank he's taking care of them because I don't see any lol.

Oh ya those will definitely work. I had a Christmas wrasse that was every bit as good if not better than the coris and leopards.

Thanks for the heads up.
Yes, I wish I knew this when I got some last time they had it in stock. My piece is very “branch-y” and reached in to grab… snap. Good stuff though. Lots of good hitchhikers. A little crab, a sponge, some cool stuff.
