Be taken seriously!! Post those tanks!!

I couldn't figure them out, shadow, spectrum and growth. I just gave up as messing with them was a bit frustrating for me.
They are nice lights though.

I'm giving LEDs one more shot with the hydra.

There's nothing I love more than the look of 20k Radiums using VHOs for supplemental lighting. Just can't get that shimmer look using LEDs, not on any tank I've ever seen.

I also haven't found a T5 actinic bulb that compares to VHO 454 or Super Actinic.

heres my schwing :)

You would have known if you checked with an experienced reef keeper....JUST KIDDING, don't flog me!:D
if I just paid 300xx for a kessil and neck not going to last 5 yrs ima be mad I thought it was like 120,000 hours and I didn't bother verifying. dang it

still better than 1999 power compacts though, look was junky lol. I had zero growth troubles with hot running change bulbs e3 mos but dang I wanted at least a decade out of the ke$$il

I buy all my "new stuff" from noobs who quit the hobby. :p
I bought my MH from newbs who bought leds:D

I've read Kessils are you best bet for LEDs.

Darn good spectrum. No spread or wrap like with a larger lighting source mh t5.
Mel Gibsons Macbeth was a masterpiece of single source lighting but I dont think corals dig it.

Chef thanks :) this system fears elbows, and nerf balls specifically. not ever algae.

Check out mcarrols work on lighting. I went old school on him and busted his boys in three different threads on lighting to make sure he knew what he was talking about.
A point he makes is even lighting. Its real hard to do with a kessel.
I did the same with brandon.
If either of yall get SD this year I owe you a beverage of choice. Dr fish It took me a couple months to get to know your work. And @robert . Your going to take me a few more months. Thank you.
No picture could tell me any of that.

I gotta go kill stuff and figure out where the cat pics are on this site.
Thanks for the food for thought

I maybe in SD in June, I'm from there & miss it!!! NYC weather sucks

I did Kessil for a while too. I am switching back to MH. I am trying a hydra 26 hd over my frag tank though.

Great read guys! In the end it's all about learning and sharing! At all levels in this hobby we each have more we can learn.

We also need to understand that we can learn most from the failures in the hobby. It makes us all step back and say, "I ain't gonna do that!"

I think the solution is merit badges. See if everyone could earn merit badges based on their areas of knowledge, you could easily check them before asking for help getting across the street.

I think there are people who just parrot information or are a master of Google, vs having actual practical application and knowledge. At the same time that doesn't necessarily mean you have to have the tank of the month in order to give out advice.

Not to mention if you take four or five experts and put them in the same room and ask them the same question, you will get four to five different answers all of which might be correct.
