Best Emergency Generator- Need Answer ASAP

I can't find a generator anywhere unfortunately! I do think that they have slowly repaired about half of the wind turbines and I imagine they are prepping them for this storm.

Since I've been so fortunate, I'm opening up my empty, yet running, frag qt to emergency hold any local reefers fish or frags for the next couple of days. If you all have any friends in Dallas that could not get a generator, feel free to dm me and I'm more than happy to help them out.
Unfortunately, for the next couple of days generators will probably be scarce. Once this blows over........I’m definitely getting a inverter/generator. Champion has one that runs dual fuel and pumps out 3150 running watts at 120v (26a total) on LPG and 3500 on gasoline. I can run my furnace or window unit and a few lights and plugs with that. They also have a 240v 6500w inverter/generator but, it’s strictly gasoline. Might do that with a tri fuel conversion kit (I have natural gas and would love to run off that). Good luck with that 2nd round we’re fixing to get.

I'll 100% be doing the same. The peace of mind by having one is worth it.

This is a wake up call to go ahead and get a backup generator and other emergency supplies as soon as I can.
Generator really is a requirement these days for an expensive reef tank. Doesn't have to be $$$ either, just enough to keep the pumps and heaters going.

Glad to hear you made it so far. I vividly remember the 1994 ice storm here in Nashville. I was without power for a week and others were for two weeks or more. We have another storm headed this way.

Harbor Freight has the Predator line of generators. I hear they are very good. I have a Champion and love it.

Kohler
Generac
Coleman
Honda

Mine has a Tecumseh but Briggs also good to me.

Coming from a guy who works for a utility, I truly am sorry for any losses. Believe me when I say we are doing everything we can to help. This is certainly unprecedented weather! Good news is I think we have seen the worst of it, for Kansas anyways.

They didn’t winterize our wind turbines and they all froze, immediately removing 20% of our power supply. Very frustrating. I can’t even find firewood anywhere, every store is closed. Have no clue what to do. I’ve driven 40 miles tonight looking for wood.

I hear ya and trust me when I say there is only so much you can do to winterize a wind turbine. I’ve been in the industry for several years and have never seen such devastating temperatures! You know that liquid you put in your car to keep it from freezing? It’s used to cool power inverters in turbines too. Fun fact to ponder while you’re driving, anti-freeze does freeze at a certain temperature. Mind blowing I know! Been dealing with this mess all day! Yesterday was figuring out how to get super cold fluids to flow properly in hydraulic systems. Tomorrow is a new day with new challenges I’m sure. Cool part is it’s not hard to keep beer frosty! What part of the country are you from? I wonder what type of turning it is. They are all slightly different. Note that I can feel my appendages I better get back to it!

I agree with you there which is why we need to stop this nonsense and get on nuclear. Dependable, safest for the climate, and we’d never have to deal with this.

I live in Texas. I believe wind accounts for 20% of our power supply which is why this affected us so bad. I’m just so angry. I’ve been driving through alleys for 3 hours now trying to find firewood.

What should you look for in a generator to tell if it will work for your heater or not?

What do you guys thinks about this generator?

I believe in a solid mix honestly. Nuclear for the base load and supplement as needed with wind, solar and natural gas. A lot of the changes are due to legislation pushing for renewables and clean energy. Another fun fact, coal doesn’t burn efficiently when it’s wet from ice and snow! Good luck on your search and above all be safe out there!

I bought one last week with the same specs! It’s in the box still and I hope for now it can stay there! Should do ok to run critical equipment to keep your tank running.

I would burn junk mail, cardboard, old cotton T-shirts, bacon grease--whatever it takes. I bought a bunch of coconut oil and popcorn oil recently. That's fair game as well.

I have my 8000 watt dewalt running right now

How does the small generator work? I feel like running gas powered anything is a bad idea inside a house..
I run mine outside the home and plug is cords to unit.
