Best Emergency Generator- Need Answer ASAP

This one was on sale at HD a few months back for $599. Made my own 4 prong cord, installed 30amp dp breaker to back feed into my main panel and bam, whole house power.

One year I lost power for 4 to 5 days in a freak windstorm. You never know when it can happen, but if you keep a tank long enough like I have for decades it eventually will hit you. For me I have a HF Predator 3500 inverter generator and a transfer switch. Works great. I even have a backup to that, a smaller Honda EU2000.

That
Sorry to be that dude with the ASAP in the title but we're having a bizarre cold front in Dallas. It's been < 15 degrees F for the last three days with 6" of snow. They are now doing rolling blackouts and I need to get an emergency generator. I have to get one from home depot.

Was hoping y'all have some quality suggestions that I can go snag real quick in case I get caught up in this.
I have been having power outages due to wind fire risk in So Cal. I have a $300 generator that powers my JBJ45 and refrigerator no problem. Its a cheap Yamaha copy 2000 size generator.

Perfect. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Just something to run the heater and return pump for a day or two. I’ll get that when I can order from Amazon again.

Yeah I hear a lot of people says you need a big one for fridge, tv whatever, but the 2000 cheapo runs everything no problem for multiple days. Just keep adding gas ⛽. Good luck!

This hardly ever happens in Dallas. Worst I’ve ever seen is power out for a few hours during tornado season. Return and heater will keep the fish alive for a couple days in worst case scenario.

If worst case scenario happens, I think this may keep things warm enough to keep the fish alive.

What is the model number of your cheapo?
It's a Red-e power 2000si. Two of my neighbors have the same one and basically power their entire apartment during power outages. I'm talking 2 refrigerators, TV, lights no problem. I am honestly shocked that it can handle it all.

Refrigerators don't use that much power beyond the surge when the motor starts. The one and only time I had an extended power outage I ran my tank with no problem and when the 2-3 hour mark hit I began pulling each fridge out and connecting an extension cord to it. Of course, that's when the power came back on.

It is unfortunate that Texas does not allow the import of power from neighboring states like most other states do in the US, otherwise rolling blackouts might not be needed as other states could help them out.

Man look at that house. I could never afford a house that nice with what I make. Then again I do own 2 generators. In decades I've owned them I only needed them twice and they were there for me.

How does the small generator work? I feel like running gas powered anything is a bad idea inside a house..
Now why would you think that.

I bought a new lawn mower and in the manual is a picture of 2 guys holding it up in the air and trimming a bush with it, manual says don't do it. I wondered who would be dumb enough to do something like that, Frogspon answered that question for me.

YOU DONT RUN IT INSIDE. There's always a few folks each year that do themselves in from carbon monoxide poisoning by running one inside. Run it outside, well away from any windows or doors and run an extension cord to the things that need powering.
Most generators also come with 220. If you have a 220 outlet in your garage just connect the 2. VERY IMPORTANT shut off your main breaker on your fuse panel. Start generator and you'll have power to the whole house. No other cords needed.

So sad but on BRS Facebook people are reporting total losses of fish and tanks. Many of them even had generators but apparently the heaters could not keep temp up even with a generator for them.

Anything with a brigs and Stratton engine will be fine.
In FL I had a 7500 watt coleman
Here in Nc I have a 5500 watt ironton from northern tool. Both have Briggs engines. Both work fine

I Like smaller inverters. They sip fuel running 24 7 running a tank. Big generators pound fuel running nonstop.

Our local fb group is very depressing right now. Dozens of posts like this
