Booger Sized Frags: What are your thoughts?

I have ordered for the first time online from reefs2go. I came across candy apple zoas, and fire & ice zias. They said there would be 5 polyps each. So i'll let you know how it turns out. You just have to check on who has had transactions with that vendor and see if they were satisfied on what they received.,

They suck! Some vendors/sellers will squeeze all they can out of a colony that really is only a frag itself. Basically they are fragging a frag. When you do that you're not only jeopardizing the health of your coral but your reputation as well. The only thing worse than shipping a booger frag...a FRESH cut booger frag. WYSIWYG is the best way to go!

I have a somewhat different take on things.
I'm figuring out a trend here and if we as hobbyists play our cards right this hobby can get even better for EVERYONE
(IMO) I think it makes sense to support both online vendors and LFS's. But not each separately, what I mean is this..... Most online vendors give fish stores discounts on orders in the range of 35-60% because of bulk orders and setting up accounts etc.
If we then purchase from the LFS's, we are supporting both. I've done it.
I viewed a piece of coral that I wanted a piece of, put the bug in my LFS's ear and when they got it in..... priced for less than was listed on the original website i bought it, so we all won. I got a great deal on something I really really wanted, the Vendor got paid what they wanted and the LFS made their money as well. Even ensured FedEx employees had something to do etc
Both business's have ensured the loyalty of a great customer as well. See what I mean, in my opinion, online vendors have just gotten greedy though. They have cut out the LOCAL guys trying to make a living unless the local guys agree to buy from them. Not right but not illegal either and I realize this
It also helps to keep prices lower (where they should be) since the LFS's get it at what should be the RRP (regular retail price) and then mark up slightly for profit IMO.
The fact still remains that Corals and other sea creatures are animals. Maybe they can't walk on land like dogs and cats but they still deserve our respect.
It's sad that this hobby has and always will be (unless we change it) "Specimen goes to the person who has the money, not the person who can provide proper care".
If people sold dogs and cats like corals to just anyone, could you image the public out cry?(backyard breeders)
LFS's (the good ones) educate and ensure that the customer is equipped to provide care for the specimens they sell. Yet another bonus since local market customers make or break a fish stores business. With out trusting repeat clientele they would shrivel away into bankruptcy
I recently purchased a frag from an online vendor, my first and last, and never received a response to my questions regarding placement lighting etc. I was really wanting them to answer me since I had the same lighting as the frag previously lived under. Since it arrived really beat up from shipping I did my best thru acclimation, dip, starting at the very bottom of my tank but nothing, it just finished dying at a steady rate til gone 
Ok I'm done..... But I hope I opened your minds to the thought of a more caring, compassionate hobby where it's not about money but the awesome creatures that allow us to provide care for them and enjoy the beauty they offer us.

My favorite is "big chunky frags the size of a dime or nickel". Goes to show you what people think of frag size. If. Endors are afraid to put up wysiwyg there is a reason why. Hint: no one would buy the little boogers.

Drives me absolutely nuts! Just acquired a couple new acro's and they show up and wow! They must of had one heck of a zoom on their camera. Lol . I can almost see the flowers on the coral...

We're all big boys and girls and buying anything sight unseen is not without risk. Without WYSIWYG you're rolling the dice. To the point of the thread, if you're tank is stable and the Booger is healthy then it can be done at great savings. If it's healed and you place it low in the tank you can make it happen......but not 100% of the time. Boogers are a gamble, but are also a way for some to acquire pieces they normally couldn't afford.

The problem I've ran into is WYSIWYG stuff. Things look MUCH bigger on the computer.
I agree with the live aquaria recommendation. I've gotten a few pieces from the divers den and they came in much bigger than I thought. You're not going to be getting super rare pieces but sometimes I feel that those kinds of things are over rated.

From booger frags to the falsely advertised colors of these corals I have eliminated so many vendors from whom I purchase from online. It's just crazy how we can pull something out of the ocean, throw the highest price you can get for it on it and think its ok. Not everyone on these web sites has the skills or knowledge required to keep these corals alive either, so we can easily drop a quick $1000 on a booger and wake up the next morning and now see the whole frag plug instead of 3/4's of it. The thing is that we the hobbyist have ok'd these things by purchasing the $1000 booger and thats why it continues to happen. I just don't know how anybody hasn't pulled out the false advertisement card yet because we all get dooped by these photos and prices by these vendors on a daily basis.

I bought 15 frags from a guy last week in an auction. About 7 serious boogers. My bad on a few that the picture was the colony but I just got a frag. I wish they had the frag photo as the main picture and the colony as a follow up picture, at least that is what I would do. Lesson learned and I will not buy from him again. He also did not leave me any feed back on ebay for any of my purchases, and I paid immediately which was my only responsibility. I probably just trade all these frags for 1 nice colony locally, I hope...

Speaking of booger sized frags, I received this frag of the Tangerine Dreams that was supposed to be a whole lot larger than the frag I actually received.
The vendor posted a WYSIWYG picture, which is the reason why I purchased the coral; However, when I finally received it, the Tangerine Dream was litteraly the size of a grain of rice.
Below is my picture. I had to take it with a ruler to see exactly how small the frag was.
I think all vendors selling corals should post a WYSIWYG along with a ruler to show exactly the size of the coral. If they don't post a picture with a ruler, then the coral shouldn't be allowed to sell on Reef2Reef or any website.

Wow, is there even a frag in there? All I see is algae and frag plug... That thing was only 2 - 3 millimeters wide. I don't think that even counts as a frag...
