I grew up in the Bay Area...was living there in '89 during the World Series Game quake...had a 240 and a 70 tall....lucky for me the the seismic waves shook them lengthwise!...my 240 scooted a couple inches off the end of the stand and sloshed out 10+ gallons...70 tall (glass) was almost 6" off the right side of the stand and also lost a lot of water...this tank would've likely crashed on the floor if the tank was set on a different wall and turned 90 degrees!

My son lives in Ridgecrest. No damage to his house, but some damage to his 55 gallon FW tank. He's got 20 gallons of water on the floor and he had to move his fish in his 10 gallon QT tank. Sounds like a mess.

A good wet/dry vac is a must for this hobby.

@GoldenStateCorals in LA has a video of their tanks sloshing water all over. I don’t think there was any serious damage though.

State lines shouldn’t matter when natural disasters hit.

That aside, you're focusing in just one side if the income statement. 1mm will buy you a piece of shiat, 900sqft studio in San Fran but can buy you a 3500sqft+ home with a pool and an acre in parts of TX.

Very different offerings. Obviously people pay the high prices because of the desirable location.

Yeah but not really. I'm not talking about a downtown Manhattan condo versus somewhere Upstate New York.

I'm talkin <5 miles from the heart of Austin Texas, a city that is consistently rated as the number one place to move to (please stay in Cali btw).

And to be frank, I have family who lived in the Bay Area for 10 plus years. And if you really want the desirable location there, you're talkin several million.

I am just saying that it is market value. The only reason the Bay is so expensive is because people are willing to pay for it. Whatever their reasons are, the public has decided that the value of homes in the area is much more than other areas.

Not talking down Cali. Just discussing facts with you. On a related note, ppl are "willing " to pay it because wages are higher there.

So to my original point. Cali wages are higher but it doesn't necessarily mean someone who makes $150k/year there is anymore "wealthy " than someone who makes $90k in TX, when factoring in the other side of the income statement.
