I’d be curious about earthquake fortification for larger aquariums. Like, I strap my water heater in SoCal..., we have to to be in code. What about large reefs? Does anyone do anything to mount the glass portion to the wall somehow. I haven’t see anything about this.

The velcro as well as the sticky side are absurdly strong. I have a couple on the tank and a couple on the stand (screwed in just to be sure)

If there is a quake big enough to take my 8' tank down, the foundation of the building, or at least the wall, would already be coming down regardless of a tank being there lol

I just hope there isnt one big enough to slosh a bunch of water onto the floor.... I live an appartment building... the ladies downstairs would not be pleased lol

We're in OC and boy, it was felt. Odd this I notice , I was outside. When quake in progress no breeze, quake stops, breeze starts again. All animals quiet here.

I spent several weeks in the southern half of your state and my impression was railroad ballast. Enough for the whole world forever. With a few scrubby weeds.
It was interesting but not where I would want to live. Kinda like Mars.

@NotASpammerDude True but there is not much else you can do other than be prepared which I am. Not being prepared would be foolish. Much like living in tornado prone areas, Can't stop them. Unfortunately earthquakes don't come with warning systems...YET. Here's to hoping they will master that soon.

I'm originally from cali, its expensive and fun at the same time. Southern cali can be a little ugly in some parts but the coast is amazing if you can afford it! I'd rather live in northern California. I lived in a town called San Andreas but it was nowhere near the falt. The school motto was San Andrea's its not our fault.

Anyway, most places feel like Mars when you've only been there for a couple weeks. Denver was a culture shock for me until I ended up living there for 6 years. Now, after 10 years in LA, Denver feels like a small town.

Because it pays more here for the same work than almost anywhere in the world. That’s why I’m here at least. An mp40 is $400 here and in Iowa, median income in Iowa is less than 40k. I’d rather do the same work and theoretically get paid over 150k and put up with the earthquakes for awhile. That’s a lot of extra mp40’s I could get for living in “such a bad state”.

Beautiful weather, sandy beaches, a mix of people from all walks of life. Cali is great. (I do miss the thunderstorms of Nebraska though...)

But really, the only downside to California is the cost of living (depending on where you live.) Well that... and the fact that everything here gives us cancer haha

for me it's the Mediterranean weather here most of the year

Nothin wrong with living there if you like and accept the earthquake risk. Just like folks living next to a river that floods. Just don't put you hand out for help when it hits.
