If they were such a Rip Off people wouldn't be buying them.

P.S. I cannot afford Ecotech either but I do not say they are a Rip Off because I cannot afford them like so many others do.

I think only a true fan could say they weren't overpriced. That someone is willing to pay that price is not the question - people do crazy things with their money. Just look at us with our $5000 boxes of water filled with animals glued to rocks!

Never heard of Seio.

What happened with them?

Product of TAAM - Taiwan-Ameritcan Manufacturing. Nothing happened to them, just not as popular anymore. The Microsoft of propeller pumps came along and people have a very short attention span. LOL.

I bought a pair of Seio's a year or two ago - strong pump, silent when running (loudest ever on startup), nice value. I am selective about where they are deployed. Originally they were for mixing saltwater (easier with a paddle), now they are on flow duty in my main reef and in the sump.

Yes they are a decent pump. I had some when they first came out and ran them with a wave2k center box. It all worked pretty well. They held up pretty well. The wave2k didn't lol. It was constantly jamming or burning up the belt. Screeching. Was a pretty cool concept though at the time.

What happened with them?

If i remember correctly there were several incidents with the pumps failing and then something came out of the motor block wiping out some tanks.
Just another great reason to have the motor outside of the tank.
That was not my experience with these pumps but something I had heard. (long ago)

That's actually a Seio Super Flow. AFAIK, that's actually an impeller pump so I never understood why they sold it under the Seio brand. We're talking about the Seio Prop. (Nice name, eh?) You can run them with the cover on (like I do) or off (like your pic), but it doesn't change how the pump works at all.

As with all things, probably not impossible. But - that does sound like an internet rumor I heard long ago. :hippie:

I like lots of flow. For my 120 I have 2 mp40's and the gyre. I am using the mp40's really just for the looks with a rimless and no wires coming out. The gyre is on the back wall vertically and alternating flow, the wire isn't as noticeable back there with the light's cord there too. I did pick up the 40's used though, no way I could drop the cash on new ones a few months ago.

Flow wise... I run the 2 vortechs 80% max, the gyre is at 60%, but alternating so one side is going while the other is in reverse so it' effectively less than 60%, but you can't compare the two. The gyre works so much better. Just for the looks reason I didn't put the gyre at the top, but when I was playing with it I really feel that I could run the gyre higher and replace the 2 vortechs and have, overall, a better flow pattern. If I can get over the looks I might put the mp40's at the bottom on the back wall and the gyre at the top.

I do really like vortechs. Overpriced... IMO yes, but they deliver and the look is great, but the gyre is just better.

2 additional issues. MP40 does work fine on 3/4" - no way my gyre held on 3/4, I had to buy the $60 larger magnet, so that favors the vortech. My gyre did stop working correctly, but coralview gave me absolutely fantastic service. They replied the same day and asked a pic to make sure everything was correctly installed and then, that same day said they would ship me a new complete outer unit - the next day it shipped and was here in 2 days. No issues since then.

I agree with Hart, 1 single Gyre is much better than 1 single MP40. The Gyre, IMO competes more with the MP60. I've got 3 MP40s on my back walls, 2 MP60s on each end and then 2 Gyres facing each other on an 8 foot long system. I bought the Gyres, just for surface agitation at the top and lowered my MP60s to the middle of the tank on each end.
