FarmerTy's 215-gallon SPS Tank

I promise it wasn't me that brought it to you. I feel great! :)

Get to feeling better soon, sir.
Thanks bud! I'm pretty sure you coughed some evil San Antonio juju on me after you saw that sign on my lawn. I forgive you though since I'm one of those "give everyone a hug" liberals. [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Your tank is filling in nicely!
Thanks Bubba! I'll try to sneak some DSLR shots in soon for a FTS and more close ups on the rocks. Scale is hard to see on a 6' tank but that Oregon Tort colony is the size of a softball.

Aww, look, all my friends came out to see how I'm doing. [emoji12]

Hits you right in the feels! [emoji22]

I'm still alive folks! I promise! Got hit with a nasty virus and been bedridden for a couple days. I'm on the mend.

Had a quick moment in between the heavily medicated states to snap a quick FTS.

I was in the middle of upgrading my Classic Apex to the new 2016 Apex and it hit me like a ton of bricks... I literally stopped, made sure things weren't going to implode in this state, and walked away and go medicate myself and rest. My system has been running the last 4 days, half on the 2016 Apex (Calcium reactor, solenoid, UV, skimmer, skimmer neck cleaner) and the other half (pumps, lights, reactors) on the old Apex. Thought some would get a kick out of that.

I'll get back to my picture snapping ways again soon but I'm on direct orders from the spousal unit to rest, and her vengeance is much worst than whatever sickness I have so I said yes ma'am and went to bed.
Glad your on the mend. I can relate, I have my equipment split up between a reefkeeper and a 2016 apex EL lol. I actually like it, safer the way I see it. I bought the apex when digital aquatics went under, dont plan on fully switching over until I have to.

When did you start running UV and why? Just curious. Also what model/how do you feed it?

Thanks!

I'm honestly a little scared because I haven't really gotten to take inventory of what is on what controller right now. So my massive amounts of failsafe programming is partially rendered useless in some areas... Like if return pump is off (on old apex) then my skimmer will automatically turn off as well (on new apex) so it doesn't just spill over and make a huge mess. Ahhh! I'm freaking out already since I just noticed that! [emoji50]

Been running UV since I tried a number of ich free scenarios when TTM first was becoming popular. The thought of a completely ich free tank was just too enticing. Then after multiple experiments and 76 day fallow periods, realized, yes, you can get a tank to ich free status, but keeping it there is just not realistic with the way I reef and probably 90% of the other reefers as well. So I learned from it and employ a much more passive strategy for ich management... Biggest UV I can get and just avoid species that have zero immunity... Such as powder blues and Achilles tangs.

I run a TMC 114 watt UV and I'd say uniquely use the 4 original holes for my overflows (bottom glass holes) as a custom closed loop to feed my UV sterilizer, as I found much greater success pulling water from the bottom of the tank where most of the action is happening with ich attachment then in the sump.
