GoVols: Red Sea S-400

Just an FYI on the phosphates and nitrates. ;Writing

Bumped up the Purigen reactor dose from 100ml to 250ml, last night, to try to hold the nitrates.

Used @MrMichael 's wax paper method for the Hanna ULR Checker and phos. is at .018 from .015 that we had on Thursday evening.
Chumming in more LRS "Reef Frenzy".

Reef is looking good and we will get the phos. and nitrates dialed back in. :)

PS: Went outside and threw one of the ULR curvett's as far away... as far as I could  and it felt... really good :D

Yeah I've heard before some people dose Vitamin C, but that it's come and gone throughout the years as a fad. I don't know if it's ever been proven to be beneficial or not, but I haven't done much reading on the subject. But glad you'll be drinking it ! lol

I read that it was good for zoas , since I've lost a few or had trouble keeping them I decided to dose vitamin c .. so far my zoas seem very happy !

Jason,
Your reef is awesome and keep doing what your doing. :)

Many ways to skin a cat and you got her locked in.

No debate from me but I don't carbon dose anymore :D

Right now... I've got the Vols / Gator's game on pause ;Nailbiting ;Nailbiting ;Nailbiting ... ;Dead

Dang!!!
60 yard pass...
Last play of the game. :(

Week #5 (35 days) of checking phos. and nitrates with the new Purigen reactor
2 weeks (14 days) with GFO reactor offline.

Welp,
If you remember... I upped the Purigen dose from 100ml to 250ml.
Also, I skipped last weeks water change, to see if the nitrates would hold with the new dose.

To sump it up... Nitrates and phos. parameters are still holding at post #661's :)
Phos. = .018ppm
Nitrates = 7ppm

Will leave GFO reactor offline and preform a water change, tomorrow evening.

In case somebody does not understand. Purigen has no effect on the nitrates that are already in your reef's water column and I may lower the dose to help bring up the phosphates.

Regards, GoVols

GoVols: Testing to see if there is something "magical" in the Red Sea ABC+ powder???

Welp,
We're getting close to dialing back in the Phosphates and Nitrates to the "new" Purigen reactor.
Would like the phos. to rise but nitrates are locked in and the reef is happy.

Also, I still think that I could have an "off-batch" of the Hanna ULR reagents but I can't prove it

With the above said, I'm planning for a big move in January.
But before I make the move that @MrMichael , @hybridazn knows about and @mdbannister can probability figure out.

Let's see if the ABC+ powder is special :D

So, For the record... I stumbled upon the ABC+ powder last October, RedSeaKev emailed me the "Color's" C & D dose in December and I bought all the "Color's" and started dosing the C & D with the ABC+ in January. (but have been dosing the abc+ since October)

So this has been close to a year's line up

So let's switch it up before I make the call on the "Big Change"

(lol)
As you can see... I still have a lot of left over product (from years back) of
Seachem - Reef Advantage - cal powder
Seachem - Reef Builder - alk powder
Seachem - Reef Advantage - mag crystals

So, Starting today, this will be the new lineup

Time will tell and I will report any change in the coral's, if need be.

You've had great success move to ABC+ w/Colors, but did you increase your Reef Energy at near the same time? You've mentioned working up to your current large dose. I was thinking about Coral Foods recently and it made me wonder if some of your success was move to heavy feedings of Reef Energy rather than the Colors? Random thought.

Bummer about reagents, but that seems like a small bounce. I try to always test in the mornings prior to feeding to get the most consistent numbers, my evening test numbers had much more variation.

Looking forward to January project :-)

Do you want my ABC+ & Colors if I switch to Triton? I'm almost pulled the switch on ordering a GHL doser, it's gonna happen soon.

Well,
The Reef Energy is the longest product of the Red Sea program that I've used and it's the only coral food that I dose.
When I had scoly's that need to be spot fed. I would shut off all flow and spot feed them Reef Energy, with a syringe and it did the job.
And (lol) your critters can't take the Reef Energy away from the scoly's. They can smell it, but they can't steal it.

RedSeaKev was real excited when I was posting about the ABC+ and sent me a pm with his email so I could talk to him if I needed to. The ABC+ is real popular in Europe and other parts of the world but no so much in the US. So Kevin was pumped.
We still talk but it's usually about how each other and how our families are doing.

So he and @SPR1968 talked me into slowly upping the Reef Energy dose and I started upping the dose at the first of the year when the Holidays were over and I had time to mess with it.

Shuan and RedSeaKev shut off their skimmer's for about 3o mins and I shut mine off for hours. One time, I shut it totally off to see what would happen. So when the lights came on the next day the reef still had some green hue, but by 2pm with all lights on, photosynthesis had totally kicked in and the coral's absorbed the remaining Reef Energy in the water column and the water was back to clear. So if I forget to turn the skimmer back on, I don't worry about it and I have forgot

Anyways, I'm holding 80 gallons and I can't remember the starting dose. Right now I'm up to 20ml per evening of each part.
I don't dose it on Thursday evenings. That's the night that I fire the flow up and lift out the detritus and the coral polyps extent out to try to capture the detritus. Then I do the water change on Friday night and suck out the remaining detritus with the Python.

So over the time that I started the ABC+. I also did the Kessil lighting mod and was upping the Reef Energy dose.

Now, If this test fails we're going to put our heads together to figure out away to automate the ABC+ powder by means of an auto fish feeder or something else :D

But, I don't think it will fail. I think we've nailed the lighting and organics with the Colors program.

Give me some time and I'll reply in our pm, regarding your ABC+ and colors.

If your ready to automate with the GHL pumps, then your ready :)

Ah...
Just spoke with RedSeaKev, today.

(lol)
I'll just have to be R2R's, ABC+ powder with Color's C & D / Wacko ;Wacky

Moving on to "Plan B" for the New Year's covert S-400 upgrade :D

And anyone else who's tagging along

Guys,
Just for the record.

Today is the 26th and that makes it "2 months"... with an aiptasia-free reef. ;Singing ;Singing ;Singing
I'm not adding any fish or corals so, I hope it stays that way.

Thanks for taking the ride with the S-400, and thanks, to our friendship.

Jackie,
I hope they take care of your 180 too :)

Freddie

Hum I lost ur thread glad I got to catch back up congrats

Welp,
We've had a lot of chatter but no pictures :(

So, here's some random shots of the S-400, taken tonight.

GoVols: Phosphate update...

Well,
Being seeing a tab bit of film algae over the past week. (no big deal)

Checked the phos. (with the ulr checker) this enevning and were up from .018 to .025... and I still think that I have an off-batch of powder reagents / the film algae is proving that out.

Firing back up GFO reactor with 1/4" cup of Rowaphos. :)

.018-.025 or .18-.25?

.018-.025 or .18-.25?
Were at .025 / Hanna ULR checker read 8 and that comes to .025

Would like to nail in at .028 - .03

But to me these reagents have been off  and that why I'm seeing some film algae.

This really is a miserable looking reef and I would expect nothing less out of a Vols fan.

Also can I get the TL;DR on how/why your N/P balance got off, or at least give me an approximate page to start from?
