Here it is! Fenbendazole use against hydroids

Well I dosed my daughters tank 30 hours ago with pure fenbendazole (fish Bendazole )

So far no loss in snails which surprised me.
I am thinking there is a byproduct in safegurd that is harmful to inverts as her tank's inverts are unharmed.

Maybe that's why mine are fine too. Looks like some of the b@stards heads are back out again though. Should I wait a bit before treating again?

If the proper amount was used they should be gone.
In my daughters tank they are gone, none to be found.

I must have used a weak dose as they are back in force. Trying again with the proper dosage this time and ensuring all carbon is removed.
Fenbendazole takes digitate hydroids out.
Caution must be taken though!

They appeared to have disappeared for a bit, but over the past few days they're increasing on me quite a bit again. I did have my carbon running last time which may have pulled my weak dose out quickly. Does just a little over 6 spoons for 65 gallons. Not heaping spoons but not short either. Water is ready in case I need a quick change.

Hello again twilliard, what's the no snail time for tanks treated with the dog wormer? I think I'm at about 2 months now but could really do with getting some snails in the tank for clean up duty.

Hi hope all is well!
This is all dependant on how the fenbendazole was cleaned up.
If it was left to settle within the rock a minimum of 3 months.

Twilliard thanks for this thread. My tank is overrun with colonial hydroids and I'm thinking of trying this method. My tank is 60 gallons. I want to use the Fish Bendazole. Can you please tell me the correct dose. Also wanted to know if you had any updates on the Fish Bendazole not harming snails. Also want to know if you think it will affect my Large black brittle starfish? Not sure I can get him out without removing some rock. Hate to lose him as he is over 20 years old. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure fenbendazole is ideal in your situation.
Fenbendazole will harm snails and possibly even the starfish.
You would have to house them separately for a minimum of 3 months.
It is 1.5mg of fenbendazole per gallon

Thanks for the information. If I decide to go this method I will remove what I can and put in my QT for 3 months. Also wondering if you have ever tried a laser? I've tried kalk paste, Aptasia X and Super glue with terrible results.

No I havent. There is too much potential for eye damage for me to write about it.
Fenbendazole works hands down though!

Thinking about trying this method to rid my tank of these @#%!@ hydroids. Do you know if Fenbendazole harms Anemone's? Thank you

@twilliard

I started my dose today, but a question.

Using the 250mg packets, I measured out 90mg, utilizing the 1.5mg per gallon strength recommended. Out of curiosity, I decided to measure out the remaining amount of the 250mg packet. Now according the the math, there should have only been 160mg left... but once on the scale, it weighed out to 1.8 grams.

Is there an additive to the pure fish fenbendazole? If the reading is correct and there is 1.8 grams, then the effective dosage changes...

I would question the calibration of your scale or the scale you are using.
Did you zero out the the holding container?
Too dark in the house to fire up the lab yet lol
