How to make R2R better in 2019

I have no idea if something like this is even possible, but it would be nice to have some way to be alerted to the "hot" threads and discussions as they are happening and not have to wait to find out about them until the daily email.

I also think it would be nice to have a way to promote the "popular" build threads. I am discovering new ones all the time that are excellent, but it takes some digging.

I don't know if this has been mentioned but I would like to see a cleaner layout under my threads. Unless Im doing something wrong my build thread is pages back and I have to search for it. Maybe a file system can be implemented where when you make a thread you select options as to what kind of thread it is. Then when you log on you can see the general categories and click into them to see your threads. Thank you for all that you do !

One thing I noticed it that once you’re following a thread, if you view an alert but do not view the thread. It seems to quit sending alerts. I’ve lost a couple threads this way. (Could be operator error )

If you click "My Threads" in the top black bar you will see all of the threads you started. That's how I get back to mine :)

Yep! I occassionaly just hit the "Mark Forums Read" button on the top black bar. It resets all of those alerts to start coming back.

A featured build thread right there on the homepage that possibly auto rotates between the many each week or so.

I love reading people’s build threads, seeing how many endless ways we all have of running our water boxes to ultimately achieve the same thing is amazing and build threads for me are the best place to find a heck of a lot of reading for it.

I feel like it would encourage more people to document and update their build threads too, knowing at some point you will get an allocated space that most eyes will see.

Kind of like a moment of fame without the need to already have a tank of the month worthy water box.

There is no way to make this site better. Its perfect the way it is I like this format a lot. I was going to say add a auction so that people can auction coral and drygoods but i dont know if that a good idea.

I'm not sure of the limitations but a phone app would be something I would enjoy. Similar to like Reddit's mobile app. Logging into my phone every time and the forum not fitting perfectly is not a limitation but would be very cool if I had a little R2R symbol I could click on and the threads, photos, contests were all immediately available.

I know an app would be a HUGE undertaking and the coding takes for ever soooo... Just my $.02.

Additionally a "calculations" tab that would have a lot of the useful calculators. Aquarium volume, 2 part dosage, and even steal some of @HotRocks and @Humblefish medication calculations and make them easy inputs.

Right now I think this site runs pretty well and there is always something fun to read or participate in so for that thanks to all the staff and great members.

Sure. Some people don't have YouTube channels. People can still embed YouTube vids, but this would eliminate the NEED for a YT or other 3rd party hosting service. Also, having stuff hosted here allows people to avoid any issues if a 3rd party site decides to do something crazy (remember the great PhotoBucket blowout?)

So you are saying this site will allow me to hit upload from my iPhone X and take a 3-minute, 4k tank video?

As mentioned above, I would like to see a daily updated industry news “blog” with articles written by a small team of very experienced reef keepers and reviewers and edited by someone with experience. Something I can go to every day for my daily hit. These articles of course would then have the associated forum thread tied to them. It needs to be an easy read. Time to time there can be a very in depth article, but the norm is in a format that I can keep on top of things in 5-15 minutes of reading a day.

That’s a bit vague. Will I be able to post directly out of my iPhone? If so, I can totally see the advantage. If I have to take other steps, one might be better off simply using YT.

No extra steps and you are correct.

Also everyone fwiw I’ll be using your suggestions as a list of things to possibly look at doing/adding.

Increase the capacity of the "recent threads" on home page, maybe with showing multiple pages. I don't know if that is a feature many go straight to, but it's the best way to have your post seen if someone isn't looking at a specific category. But, with the amount of traffic and posts on this site, a post is gone from "recent threads" within about 5 minutes sometimes if not answered.

EDIT: Case in Point, look how quick this reply went to the bottom

I also like this idea. I like the recent posts part of the main page but would love to be able to look at more than just the last 20 or so.
