Alright, I need to get back to watercolors soon. How soon should we try this. 2-3 weeks out so we can try some word of mouth advertising? 22nd? 29th? April 5th?
The other option is we could piggy back on gvac and after their speaker/auction we could meet for food or drinks at a nearby restaurant to discuss tanks and figure out if there's enough interest in making this a club.

Nice - really would be cool to see a group start up here in GR! Oh - another thing we could try to do would be group-buys from online shops...

Hopefully we would be able to do a group buy and shop hops along with some visits to each others set ups. Depending on if it gets traction we could charge dues and be able to use that in order to bring in a speaker every once in a while. There are a lot of interesting things we could do with this and it will all be determined by the amount of participation we receive.

I submitted the 29th and the 5th as options to watercolors and will see what works better for them. I think the next piece will be to name it and create a social media presence to attract more people. Grand rapids marine society is the now defunct club that I have been unsuccessful in getting in touch with the previous leadership.
We could go a similar route with grand rapids reef club we could be more regional something like West Michigan Reef Club, or Lake Michigan Advance Reefers.
Is there a way to set up a vote on here?

Ok, I'm going to set up a Facebook group for this as well. Probably get to it this afternoon after work.
Tuesdays are when they shoot Thier podcasts so the first meeting will be Wed March 30th at watercolors aquarium gallery at 7pm. I need as many people to show up as possible so we can see if this is viable. We can make adjustments to time/date going forward but at least we have some forward momentum.

Awesome idea for starting a group here in West Michigan guys! I always love meeting fellow hobbyists and have been in the hobby for around 20 years. I live in Caledonia and currently run a Flex 32.5, but am working on a 125 gallon build that will be up and running soon. I will try to make it on the 30th at Watercolors to meet everyone!

Reef bum podcast mainly talked about the benefits of having a club. Also talk about some of the highs and lows of running a club.
Also wanted to say that Water Colors Aquarium Gallery has a really good podcast if you haven't listened to it yet. Just happens to be where the 1st meeting will be.

I won't be able to make it to GR on Wed evenings for a bit, since I'm in kzoo and have a 5-year-old to look after. Sounds like fun though!
On a side note, I'm always willing to take a drive up to GR to sell some frags and have some good beer while I'm up there

Anyone on here also on the michiganreefers.com forum? There are a few members on there who still post, and it would be nice to get it up to its former glory. Trying to bring it back from just classifieds.

I am on it. Seems to be mostly east side reefers nowadays
