Ugly Sponges/stringy stuff in my tank

So what's the consensus? WHat is it and how the heck do I get rid of it? I just had to do another water change because I turkey basted all the rocks. It comes off very easily. I am getting pineapple sponge growth, but so far it seems to just be in the fuge.

I'm not sure it's chrysophytes. It "sort" of looks like that, but it's not clumped together forming anything like that. They are pretty much long stringy and singly, rather then grouped.

Unless this picture (not mine) is chrysophytes. Mine look pretty close to this.

Odd long spine and short spine urchins tested with no side effects.
Should be out of the clear unless rock is covered in algaes and bendazole not cleaned up
If left in longer than the maximum 30 hours it will bind with the algaes.
Plop in a turbo :-)

Nah, I only left in for 24 hours and did all those water changes. Starfish keep dying too.

The picture in your first post looks like a undesirable type of sponge to me.It tends to slime when you remove it from surfaces. You last posted photo looked liked Vermetid snail discharge or coral slime.Just my two cents.

Sorry man but this isn't chrysophytes so I am unsure whether upping your snail population would help.

From what I can tell it isn't dinoflagellates or chrysophytes. I've only seen this stuff in one other persons tank and he eventually removed the rock and replaced it with new live rock :/ . How long had the tank been set up before this slime appeared and where did the rock come from?

It's good you tagged Randy, as he was keenly interested in slime on another forum. Most of it pointed to things such as dosing different products/vodka/vitamin C/etc, but I would be guessing at this point. I've never really looked into dosing anything, so that's not something I'm "up on".

I cannot find anything online even close to what this is. It's got to be a bacteria bloom, but then again anything is possible.
