Ugly Sponges/stringy stuff in my tank

That's what I would think too.... bacteria. It's basically a game of ruling everything else out. I hope Randy can add.

I just realized something else. I lowered the return pump output for less flow for a few weeks (just recently turned it back all the way up) and my skimmer was off for a few weeks as well. Its been back on for a few weeks and skimming well.

I would cut back significantly on the NoPoX dosing and I'd bet it will go away. I dose vinegar and have had the same problem.

Where do you dose the NoPoX? I dose in to my sump and don't have a lot of rock in there. I was thinking of adding a couple of Marine Pure blocks in my sump to try to provide more surface area where the dosing occurrs.

When I asked Randy about this he also suggested changing carbon sources to see if you can develope a different competing strain of bacteria. (I think I recalled that correctly)

I stopped it all together as of right now. Do you have any pics of what you had?

Sorry I didn't take any pics. It would accumulate inside my overflow where the water came over. It didn't get on the glass much except a white thick film but it did have some white accumulation on the rock and in the sump. In the overflow it would be in big wads. When I manually removed it and took it out of the tank it would look like pink tissue but in the tank it was white.

Its got to be the same thing. I had it the overflow as well. I also have white film on the glass then when I clean comes off as if it was dust on it.

IMO quit dosing stuff. Anything. Period.

It takes weeks to lack phosphate out of a system with macros or GFO.

It takes weeks to build a bacterial colony in a tank for a bio filter.

It's gonna take weeks to pull this stuff out too. Unless you rebuild the whole thing.

Dosing multiples of anything is changing the equasion so quickly there's no way to see what the sum of the original equasion was.

Also you keep dosing bacteria and feeding bacteria food. At the same time you have a possible bacteria outbreak.
Just sayin. Stop dosing bacteria.

And patience. First rule of Reefing.
