Collectively, we have run out of ideas to discuss but don’t want to leave the scene in case something happens…or it’s like my four dogs when they get excited and there is nothing to relieve the tension, they will get into a frenzy and start chewing (playfully) on each other.

The question makes sense but the answer is not known. The polymer will not break down (or very slowly), but it does bind to negatively charged stuff (bacteria, organisms, detritus, some dissolved organics, mineral surfaces, etc.), taking it out of the available water column for additional action. Some folks in the chem forum are trying to test this.

I personally would not get too worked up about water changes and disposal. It's more of an academic question.

So, if it binds to these items, the only way to remove it from a tank is to remove all rocks and substrate? (Asking for a friend who was dumb enough to use it for a long time...)

I think that would be expedient but not the only way. The material the polymer binds to may slowly get washed off over time during water changes or through skimming.

A number of folks lost clams. A least one Reef2Reef member lost a lot of clams.

Over 50…. Of course it’s impossible to prove it was this chemical, however the death was not typical of any clam disease known such as pinched mantle - I made a few posts as it was occurring and did not get any responses saying people had seen clams like that before. Chalked it up to an unknown pathogen, which is still possible, however I did run vibrant several times in the system - few bottles worth. Many months later I was and am able to keep clams so either it degraded/exported or the mystery illness left. Another coincidence is I didn’t use vibrant again.

so again can’t prove it killed previous growing healthy clams, I’m sure many clams have been fine. I’m not even claiming it did kill them, just sharing what happened in my clam system that is now a reef tank as empty clam shells costing 5-10k are not exciting to view.

If total removal is the goal, it will be challenging otherwise.

But once bound to a surface, it is no longer active against organisms in the tank and I personally would not try to remove it. It just becomes part of the detritus.

Never gets old! I don't know if this is so funny to me because my son has made me watch this movie 100 times and I can actually hear his voice while I read it, or if its the hilariousness of the meaning. Probably a little bit of both. HAHAHA

I wonder if one contributing factor is because they filter so much water so get a bigger dose.
