I'm not going to buy something just because the coral has lineage on it, has a peice of paper that comes with it. I buy a coral/invert because of its color or overall apperance(shape of it). To put a peice of paper with or put an artificial name on it sounds like a big scam to make more $. Not for me. I don't want to pay more just for a name/lineage.

I voted no. I do like many of the LE corals, but I buy based on looks and not lineage. I think hobbyists should just buy the corals they like and can afford. I don't think a COA would benefit the hobby as a whole. It is simply a new marketing tool.

After reading this thread over and over again this sums up my thoughts^^^

I just like the coral and don't care about authenticity if the coral looks cool. However if the frags that I have bought from Tyree came with a COA I would have been stoked! I would prefer that he autograph the frags but he seemed to think that was a bad idea.

so if eveyone just bought what they like theres no need for a COA, like i said b4, bc its tryees who cares, i mean if i spend 250 on a frag it better come with some FREE HBO

Maybe some day a website will open and just have pictures of corals. Point and click, click and buy...no names period. (wont be in business very long, but what the hey!)Thats how we started our biz, but everybody wanted LE stuff. Your danged if you do and your danged if you dont.

BigIan, did you get your Oregon Mummy Eye today? How did you like the COA that came with it? No extra charges were there?

Im not gonna lie Perry, it was a nice touch. It was nice that Isaac took the time to do that... I doubt Ill ever use it because people that buy from me know what I sell them is legit but still, it was a nice touch...

And no, no extra charges ;)

If thats your plan, its a neat little bonus and it couldn't hurt but I dont think its needed to prove where I got it. I know who I got it from and if someone doesn't trust my word, I wouldn't expect them to buy from me...

the whole point is now bigian you can go buy a knock off that looks the same and sell it as a le..... thats where the problem lies

This is exactly the plan. Isaac and I are the ones that thought it up in the first place to get it out there. He has already implimented it. So there you have it!!!!!

now you could easy take a knock off show that cert and make a lot of money, thats the bad side and i think people will take advantage of that

Why would I chance ruining my reputation by doing this? Especially when I have the real thing as well as the original mummy eye?

I don't expect Ill find a knock off either. The fact that these corals are rare, at least in the hobby, is what creates their value, not a certification...

no where did i say YOU had intent to do this, please dont take that the wrong way, all i said is you could. And it wasnt ment just to you ANY one could do that, and how would you ruin your rep, there would be no way to tell ifs it fake or not

Phil, your too funny. I am actually making mine where they will not be easy to fake. I am looking into customized holograms which are tamper proof. If you take it off from the paper it is stuck to you will ruin the whole thing. Phil another thing you dont seem to get is that these corals are hard to come by. They dont just have a back stock of mummy eye chalice sitting in a warehouse somewhere. Neither can you order it because the suppliers in other countries dont know the diff between chalices. I can order 500 chalice colonies and still not get one. Thats why some pieces have a premium price attached. Some are common and some are not. You mentioned Steve Tyree and his tank being magical. Steve and Hugo were very fortunate to get that piece of coral. The infamous watermelon that is so highly touted. You just dont see them on orders and that one in particular color, texture, growth rate etc... is especially unique. I would actually classify that as a RARE coral.

rare... not magical i mean its not like you put the coral in your tank and you get free hbo....and im not saying fake the coa, lets say i buy a real piece with a coa and a fake peice. now i go to sell the fake one, i tell yhe guy heres a frag and look heres my COA i cant give it to you bc its for my colony but here it is, the person buying the coral has seen the COA and now believes its a true LE when in reality its nots

I don't know how many times I have to say this, but i will again, CORAL KARMA, what goes around comes around. People will do that with or without the coa, they will copy invoices, whatever it takes, if they can even find a look alike coral!!! its clearly already happening, so i don''t see what your point is......maybe you just like to argue :) How would offering a coa make it any easier than it already is? It wouldn't, it would make it a little more difficult, an added bonus to the coa haha. The problem of people scamming and frauding other people, by selling a look alike, would not change in any way with the implementation of a coa. The coa is for the person buying the coral from the source, not for the scammers!!!

The odds of finding an exact match to an Oregon mummy eye or the original watermelon are about as slim as winning the lottery. With this in mind the chances of fraud are near irrelivent. Also if you find me a frag of an exact look alike to the original watermelon or Oregon mummy eye I would gladly pay the same price as the real deal.

All you "collectors" out there are screwed cause we are no longer a capitalist society and your new president is gonna spread the coral around so we all get our "fair" share!
