Curious - In our locality its illegal to dump salt water into the street. I wouldn't personally use it to water trees or bushes (kill weeds maybe). How do some of you get away with it (i.e without damaging plants)

Where does your sump drain to?I know it’s a bad idea but it’s so dang convenient, I have 4 tanks running in the basement, so I drain them into the sump pit. I do trigger the sump to run after I put salt water in it, but I’m sure I will pay for it in salt water corrosion on the sump motor in a few years, beats lugging the water upstairs though. I have a septic system as well, so no chance of me putting the water down the drain anyways. The sump discharges far away from the house and eventually runs into a creek.
Python.I'm interested...what kind of vacuum do you use with salt water?
Curious - do you mean your sump in your aquarium - or your sump pump?Mine goes into the house waste line. Plumbed from sump to house.![]()
Mine still grows.I drain my water to the sump pump then outside
Toilet here too. Dont dump saltwater into a septic system or you will have issues in the future.
Do you have fill lines coming off of your septic tank? Or just a holding tank?I had this discussion about 10 years ago and avoid dumping saltwater down the toilet as much as possible, but dump an occasional bucket in the septic.
What exactly is the issue? What is the long term problem?
I have my septic pumped every two years.
That's interesting. I'll have to look into that more.I bought a genesis water change system and dump down the slop sink. I was concerned about sending all this saltwater into the septic. I eventually found a forum where one of the members was in the business and referenced a study were they said saltwater from water softeners we’re actually beneficial to the fields. That was enough to convince me.
