lou dogs first reef build

Mine took a while too, but once you find the "sweet spot" they are awesome. Make sure it is sitting at the correct height in the chamber. Can't remember now what that was but made all the difference on mine.
Yeah, all of the reviews say about 6.5 to 7, that's where I have it at now. Think it just needs a little more time.

So after getting the system online and running for a week on just the return pump, last night I got around to installing the MP40s. Man these are some sweet pumps!! I was amazed at how much stuff that came flying out of the cracks and crevices of the rock work when I fired them up!!

Well, I drank margaritas tonight instead of hooking up my ATO. Now i have to go make RO/DI!!! Good reason to finish that!!!

I am over all really happy with the way the display came out, all except for the white sticky tabs that came with the MP40s. They look like poo!!

Today marks exactly 2 weeks that the system has been online. I am going to do a water change today, and start up the BRS dual reactor with carbon and GFO. Going forward my plan is bi weekly water changes, with carbon changed out at every water change. Change out GFO monthly, every other water change.

I completely agree with the white tab problem on MP's. Really show and I hate the look.

Ok so after I did the water change tonight I thought it would be a good time to run a power failure test on the system. Now since I have 2 sumps, and a whole lot of different siphoning going on, I knew it was gonna be interesting. Well it handles the outage just fine, but the problem is that I loose a little too much water for it to re-start on its own. I have to figure out a solution to this, as we do have our share of outages here. I think I need some kind of gravity feed resovior with float valve just for this senario.

Day 17, and litteraly overnight diatoms showed up. Atleast I guess that's what they are, brownish orange spots on the rocks and sand. My caulerpa for my sump will be here tomorrow, finally getting a little life in the system!!

Ok so I got my caulerpa in the mail last week and it was looking pretty bad. I stuck it in my sump and within about 3 days all the leaves turned brown and died. Now it has all this nice green fresh growth coming up off the runners, looks like its gonna make it after all!

Very nice. Wish I had the room to do my tank this way! Awesome job!

Ordered a CUC from reef cleaners today. Also ordered some mangroves and pods.

Well I got my CUC from reef cleaners yesterday, unfortunately about 90% of them were dead!!! The mangroves seemed to be in good shape.

I started up my GFO and carbon reactors a couple days ago, now my water is all cloudy!!

Off to a great start!! How do you like the tank? Been thinking about ordering one from them. Did you flush out the media before you brought them online?
