lou dogs first reef build

Off to a great start!! How do you like the tank? Been thinking about ordering one from them. Did you flush out the media before you brought them online?
Thanks!! I like the tank so far, being a newbie there's a few things I would have done differently with it if I could start over. But overall quality of the tank is good. Adam is a good guy to deal with, he is the guy that builds all their tanks. As far as the cloudy water I think it is bacterial, just don't know why!

I wouldn't be too worried about it, it's a new tank everything is just getting started. It should eventually clear up.

The fuge is coming to life! Caulerpa is really taken off, got some snails crawling around in their, and some really cool amphipods darting around and digging in the mud!

The water has cleared up nicely after a large bacteria bloom, diatoms are fading as well. Tested the water today and everything was perfect, I'm pretty sure I could add a couple fish and coral, but I'm going on vacation in a couple weeks so I think I will just wait!!

Good to hear!! Better to wait so you can watch everything for awhile.

On a different note, not related to aquariums, my wife and I, one of our favorite things is driving on the beach and fishing. We usually do a summer trip, and then a trip for just us in the fall when the big drum start running. Been using my stock silverado for this, but it is kinda sketchy.i finally purchased our beach buggy!!, and I love it!! 6 inch suspension lift and 35 inch tires, look out hatteras!

I have noticed the last couple days that my system is absolutely full of pods. They are everywhere!! I am headed to cape hatteras for a week next saterday, hope I can find some cool shells and stuff to throw in the tank. When I get back it will be time to start stocking this bad boy, at that time it will have been online for 2 months.

Sounds good. What are the stocking plans?

The plan is a couple chromes, couple anthias, couple clowns, a mandarin, yellow tang or kole tang, maybe some yellow accessors. Corals I plan to start with lps. Oh and maybe a royal gramma or blackcap basslit.

Installed the kessil H380 this evening. I have had this thing from the beginning, but it was easier to just throw the 2 PCs on it when I started it up. I used some 1 inch PVC pipe to make a simple cradle to hang it from.

I have been slacking, not updating my thread, so here it goes. Lots has happened since my last update, tank has been up and running 3 months now. Had a hair algae outbreak, a fish disaster, and started adding some coral, so far i have 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 blue reef chromis, and 1 yellow tang. Corals I have frogspawn, hammer, zoas, an acro, and another SPS that I am not really sure of what it is. I want to apologize in advance for the crappy pics, I really need a decent camera and learn how to use it.

Yikes! Sorry to hear about the fish disaster, but glad things are still plugging away!

Thanks, what happened was I got 5 beautiful blue reef chromis, And they killed each other off until only one was left. After doing a little more research it seems that this is not uncommon. Its a shame because they really are a cool little fish.

Yep. I went through the same thing with chromis.

Very nice job on the entire system, your patience and hard work will pay off later. Take your time enjoy the process and it will reward you later.
Nitro

Thanks guys!! Yea, these were not your ordinary 5 dollar blue/green chromis either, 30 bucks a piece. Really awesome looking little fish. Funny thing is i got into this hobby because of the coral, never was really into the fish all that much. Well that has changed now that I finally have a tank going, I'm now addicted to both fish and coral!! Lol

I really need a decent camera, and learn how to take some good pics. Its very frustrating cause my tank looks really awesome in person, but every picture I try to take looks like poo!! Lol

This is hanibal, he killed 4 of his fellow blue chromis tankmates within a week. He is now king chromis!!!

This is poopy the tang. He takes dino sized dumps

Hanibal likes to hang out with poopy and gobble up small particles that he stirs up.
